Going into the project, I had a good rythm. The SMEs were skeptical at first, but I was able to rally them in by showing them the results of the survey and the issues the company faced with loans boarding through ATSU. The SME kickoff was a success. One thing that I learned is that the SME is the most important part of the process. Without the SME, the information can be compromised. The SME can also cause the project to come to a complete halt - as I discovered when attempting to complete the final module of the course, Research. The SME went out on an unexpected leave due to an injury at work, and there was no back-up provided. The business was reluctant to provide additional resources for the project since the department was already shorthanded and deadlines were approaching. In the future, I will be sure to secure more than one SME for a process, and do a better job at communicating the consequences of having no SME resources.
Strengths
I had a successful SME kick-off.
The SMEs provided lots of great content to assist with completing the material.
Weakness
I did not have a back-up SME for each process.
Threats
Lack of SME resources for the Research module cased the project to come to a halt and the cusp of completion.
Opportunities
Engaging the business more often could have possible remediated the issue with the SME. Not only should I have regular meetings with the SME, I should have scheduled regular meetings with the business. I consentrated more on getting the course completed on the tight timeline than engaging the business in every step of the process. This cause the business to become disconnected from the project. When the project was presented with an issue, the business was not quick to respond.
