This week I worked with the SMEs to review the data that was shared with the business in order to determine what information needs to be in the course and create a course flow. The business determined that an e-learning would be more feasible since this needs to be communicated quickly. The business could not afford to deliver instructor led training due to the extent of work that needs to be completed daily. I will be creating the course using Storyline. I utilized a mind map to visualize the course flow, objectives and process to the business. The mind map can be viewed here. Next week I will be focused on development since the time-line is so aggressive. I have approximately 6 SMEs working with me since the information spans across several departments. The challenge I have is that the SMEs do not know how their functions tie together. There are so many gaps in the SOPs and information that I am receiving from the SMEs. My SMEs also have a hard time explaining their processes. One of the most important parts of developing this type of course is the SME. If the SMEs cannot produce the right information, this could significantly hinder the project. I am meeting with my SMEs a total of 6 hours weekly. .

Challenges

Working with so many SMEs across different areas was challenging because they did not know how their roles related. There was conflicting views on how the material should flow and what should be included.

How I overcame the challenges

I had each SME send the material (SOPs, work instructions, etc) that would be used to create the course. I reviewed the materal and created an outline and flow based on the combined areas. The SMEs were amazed at how I put the material together. They even learned something about the dependacies each department has on the other.
